Moving to Alaska Keep It or Leave It Checklist

Posted 06.07.2012 in Articles by Dan

The first step of the moving process to Alaska before actually packing anything is deciding what you are going to take with you and what you are going to leave behind. There's so much stuff to sort through, keep, or dispose of; it's important to stay organized. We've put together a basic list to help you decide what to keep, and what to leave.

KEEP:

  1. clothes
  2. important files and paperwork
  3. irreplaceable electronics including desktop computer or laptop, tablet, and external hard drives
  4. photos, frames, photo boxes, and scrapbooks
  5. jewelry
  6. items that can't be replaced (sentimental value)

KEEP IF THE PRICE TO SHIP IS LESS THAN PRICE TO BUY IN ALASKA:

  1. car (when moving to Alaska, will your car be able to handle the weather and roads?)
  2. pets
  3. dining room set
  4. mattresses
  5. bedding
  6. wardrobe or dressers
  7. kitchen appliances
  8. kitchenware
  9. TVs

LEAVE:

  1. old DVDs
  2. unnecessary tools
  3. old clothes
  4. old paperwork/files/mail
  5. unnecessary books
  6. older bedding
  7. unnecessary kitchenware
  8. unnecessary furniture
  9. cleaning supplies
  10. toiletries
